The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), located in Sector F-5/2, Islamabad, has announced a career opportunity for the position of Director CPSC (China-Pakistan Study Centre) (BPS-20) on a regular basis.

The appointment will initially be made on six months probation. The position is suitable for highly experienced professionals, researchers and academics with expertise in International Relations, Defence & Strategic Studies, Economics, Political Science or related disciplines, particularly those with a strong research focus on China, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and Central Asia.

📌 Qualification & Experience

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

Ph.D. degree in:

International Relations (IR)

Defence & Strategic Studies (DSS)

Economics

Political Science

Comparable discipline

Applicants currently enrolled in a Ph.D. programme may also apply.

Excellent analytical ability is required.

Candidates having particular research/expertise focus on China, SCO and Central Asia will be preferred.

Minimum 10 years of professional experience in a:

University

Think tank

Research institution

Policy-oriented organization

Minimum 5 HEC-recognized research publications.

Professional & Leadership Requirements

The successful candidate should have:

Strong leadership and team-management skills.

Experience supervising researchers and delivering quality outputs within defined timelines.

Established professional networks with Chinese think tanks, research institutions and universities.

Experience in fellowships, joint research, academic exchanges and international collaborations.

Experience in conceptualizing and leading:

Research projects

Policy dialogues

Conferences
