Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT) 2026 – HEC
The Education Testing Council (ETC), Higher Education Commission (HEC) is conducting the Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT) for students intending to apply for HEC scholarships in PhD programmes and admission to MS/MPhil and PhD programmes at universities.
The HAT is conducted in five categories according to the applicant's 16 years or equivalent education and relevant academic stream.

The selected HAT category should be chosen according to the university's admission requirements and the applicant's academic stream. The selected subject category cannot be changed after submission.
HAT results are valid for HEC scholarship programmes, including Commonwealth, Chinese Government, Hungarian and other HEC scholarships.

Candidates must register online through the Education Testing Council (ETC) portal.
Visit the ETC online registration portal and complete the application.
Submit the application after entering all required information. Only submitted applications will be considered.
Pay the test fee through 1Link/1Bill Invoice using the generated consumer number.
After payment, verify the online payment through the ETC Dashboard.
Check all personal information, particularly name, CNIC number and mobile number, before submitting the application.
Download the Roll Number Slip from the ETC portal or through the registered email approximately one week before the test.
Important: Applications remaining in SAVE or INCOMPLETE status will not be entertained. The test fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Test Centre & Roll Number Slip
Applicants can select a test centre from the available list during registration. The selected test centre cannot normally be changed after registration. However, ETC may assign another centre if fewer than 250 applicants are available at the selected centre.
A printed Roll Number Slip and original CNIC/Passport will be required for entry to the test centre.
Candidates should provide valid email and mobile numbers to receive information regarding Roll Number Slips. SMS may not be delivered to mobile numbers that have been converted from one network to another; such applicants will receive information through email.
Important Instructions
Candidates must use their own CNIC when registering.
Applicants registered using a parent's, sibling's, relative's or another person's CNIC will not be permitted to sit the test.
Any discrepancy between the CNIC and application information may prevent the candidate from appearing in the test.
Mobile phones and electronic devices, including calculating, recording, communication or imaging devices, are not allowed inside the test centre.
Taking, uploading or sharing images of the question book is strictly prohibited and is subject to punishment under ETC policy.
Any change in the test date will be announced through the HEC and ETC websites.
ETC conducts HAT on a quarterly basis in major cities of Pakistan.
